Mark King

Mark King
General Counsel

Mark is a North Carolina State Bar licensed and United States Patent & Trademark Office registered attorney. A Wilmington native, Mark attended Duke University, graduating with a B.A. in history, a B.S. in biology, and a minor in chemistry. Following Duke University, Mark attended the Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctor and being admitted to the North Carolina State Bar upon graduation.

Mark is also a NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO), a prestigious designation earned after passing a series of four examinations.  NAFCU Certified Compliance Officers have extensive knowledge and understanding of the major regulations that govern credit union operations.

Prior to joining the Velocity Solutions, Inc. team, Mark acquired substantial experience practicing law in the following legal disciplines: intellectual property, business and corporate, entertainment, civil litigation, real property, estate planning, estate administration, and guardianship. In September of 2009 while the country was falling into economic crisis, Mark elected to flee the safety of a good job with an established law firm in favor of hanging his own shingle. The fruit of Mark’s late nights and ramen-noodle dinners in the early going, the Wilmington, NC law firm of Humphries & King, P.C. is now established and well-respected for its total immersion approach in servicing the needs of small businesses and entrepreneurs from inception to liquidation.

A local small business owner and entrepreneur himself, Mark now dedicates much of his extracurricular time on efforts seeking to promote sustainable economic development and job creation in southeastern North Carolina. Mark is former Chairman of and presently serves on the Steering Committee of the Cape Fear Economic Development Council (CFEDC) and, through this organization, has grand hopes and aspirations for improvement of local infrastructure and business climate to foster a healthy and robust southeastern N.C. “creative class” culture.

For fun, Mark enjoys playing basketball poorly and is a self-described music fanatic with a particular affinity for vinyl. Not for fun, Mark frequently finds himself cleaning a path of destruction left by a 7 lb. Silky Terrier with whom he and his wife, Libby, cohabitate.
